And this little pouch went wee, wee, wee all the way home...to my house

Hmm, spaghetti sauce in a pouch. That's a new one to me. When we went to the 99 Cents Only Store, they were on special, buy one, get one free. Of course they were, since the expiration date was the day before. I looked at the other variety and it expired on, February 9th.

Perfect size for those one person meals; as my daughter makes pasta, for herself, when I am work. Even better no bulky containers, taking up space in the freezer; with leftover pasta sauce.

And so, those eight little pouches went wee, wee, wee straight into my freezer.

I have been going through all of your postings, reading them all.

When it comes to expiration dates, they are not hard and fast, they are a guide.

An article I read said that for some things, it is to get consumers to purge and buy new. In some instances, they really don't know the shelf life, but make a reasonable prediction. Sometimes, especially with medications, they want to change packaging to keep it current.

The U.S. Army, which has millions of dollars of medications did a study and found that, say aspirin as an example, on its expiration date may not be any different than from it's date of manufacture. Three years after it's "suggested expiration date", it may be 1/100th less effective, but not harmful. So many manufactures do not really know, they just suggest. Also, how and where things are stored can be just as important as age on the shelf.

All of that said, I know people who have something about them (we all have something), that even if they know all of this, can't handle that it might not be uber fresh.
